Our Story
I have been involved in the film industry on and off for many years and some of my closest connections are industry professionals. Through this experience I developed my own understanding of acting portraits and their importance and myths.
Some casting agents swear by showing yourself in a bold light while some disregard the same calling it too advertisement-y. Talking to a handful of them makes it easy to see there is many conflicting views on what makes a good acting portrait.
I believe it mainly comes down to two things your presence and the good photograph. Now I won't go in detail but you take a good photo when you don't put the bad stuff in it. That's it. More crucial part is to be present which is funnily exactly like acting.
Here is the not so secret secret. If you have a clueless scene partner chances are you are trying to do your job and theirs at the same time. It's the same in a lot of actor portraits. You just see the actor checking if the photographer gets it or not. Result is a portrait of a tense, closed and overthinking person. Not of someone whose job is to play.
It is as important to have the safe space for your portraits as for your performances. Creating this safe space through communication is the first priority so when the shoot time comes there is room to play so you can show your most beautiful self and it can be captured to represent what magic you hold within yourself.
